The Bonzai Employee Directory provides a simple and easy-to-use interface whereby users may search for people within the organization. Searches may be based on one or more properties associated with the users (by way of the User Profile Service), increasing the findability of people within the Employee Directory.
Bonzai Employee Directory ships with a default configuration of searchable and display properties, which may be easily customized. The following screenshot depicts the default Employee Directory search:
In addition to the free-form search box, property-specific search filter criteria may be specified. In the above image, the Location property may be specified to filter results.
By default, Employee Directory performs type-ahead search of the standard SharePoint User Profile properties, and displays the Name, Role, Location and Picture in the results drop-down as depicted in the following screenshot:
Both of these behaviors may be customized to suit an organization’s needs. The following is an example of the search filter criteria and type-ahead results configured to display Department and Mobile Phone information:
Type-ahead quick results:
Customization of the Employee Directory search filter and type-ahead quick results display is performed by modifying the Employee Directory Web Part properties, as below:
The default Employee Directory display and filter properties have a checkbox configuration to enable/disable their use. Additional properties may be configured by populating the corresponding text box with a semi-colon delimited list in the following format:
Display Name: Managed Property
The Display Name may be any alphanumeric text value, while the Managed Property must match what is configured in the Search Schema section of the Search Service Application. The previous screenshot shows the configuration required to both query as well as display results from the Mobile and Department managed properties.
The following shows the Managed Properties screen in the Search Schema:
Note that the Search Schema may be defined in Central Administration as well as in the Bonzai Site Collection. Each of the Managed Properties is mapped to one or more crawled properties. If mapped to more than one crawled property a single search will return any matching results from the crawled properties.
A crawled property will be created by the SharePoint Search Service for each of the User Profile Properties that contains values. These values may be populated in a number of ways, including:
- Importing values from Active Directory
- Editing values in the user MySite Profile Pages
The following table is a listing of the default mapping of Managed Properties to the corresponding User Profile Property Display Name and User Profile Property Internal Name:
|Managed Property||User Profile Property Display Name||User Profile Property Internal Name|
|Responsibilities||Ask Me About||SPS-Responsibility|
1. There exists no Managed Property for this User Profile Property in a default SharePoint 2013 installation. A new Managed Property will need to be created and mapped to the crawled User Profile Property to enable search on these values
2. There is a ‘ProfileName’ Managed Property that is mapped to a number of name-related properties in the User Profile Service and may be useful as a universal property that provides name data. These User Profile properties include:
